A caste certificate is a legal document that determines whether a person belongs to a particular caste. To identify their caste, everyone has to make their caste certificate. There are many categories of caste in Assam such as General, Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC). The Constitution of India provides for the reservation of certain posts in government services for members of the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST). Benefits and uses of OBC certificate: 

There are many benefits for the people of backward classes. These benefits include :

1. There are many Reserved positions in every government job of Assam. OBC Certificate plays a vital role to avail the Reserved position of any job.
2. There is an extra age Relaxation when applying for any Jobs of Assam. That means permitting some exemption in the maximum age limit according to their Caste.
3. Students require a caste certificate for admission in school / college or to avail scholarships offered by the Government. also, caste certificate helps full or partial privilege of college and school admission costs. 
4. The government of Assam provides various privileges to the people of backward classes.

Eligibility Criteria: 

1. Applicant should be a Citizen of India.
2. He/She must be a Permanent Resident of Assam.
3. He/She must belong to community recognized as OBC Caste in the State of Assam.

Documents Required

The following documents along with the OBC Certificate application form are required to get this certificate in Assam: 

a) Passport size photograph of the applicant.
b) Proof of Date of Birth (One of Birth Certificate/Aadhaar Card/PAN/Admit Card issued by any recognized Board of Applicant
b) Permanent resident certificate or any other proof of residency. Such as Permanent Resident Certificate/Aadhaar Card/EPIC/Land Document/Electricity Bill/Ration Card of Applicant or Parent. (ঠিকনাৰ প্রমান পত্র)
c) Caste certificate of parents or relatives Father OR Recommendation of authorize caste/tribe/community organization notified by State Govt. as supporting proof of caste status.
d) If the applying individual is from the rural areas requires a report of Gaonburah / Ward Commissioner in case of urban areas.
e) Any other document (Voter List, Affidavit, Existing Caste Certificate etc.)
f) Copy of Legacy data as per NRC 1951, electoral role between 1966 & 1971.
g) Scanned Copy of the Application Form.

How to Apply for OBC certificate:

There are two ways of applying the OBC caste certificate in Assam. These are:

1. Offline
2. Online

Offline Application Process

To get an offline OBC certificate you have to visit Office of the Deputy Commissioner, SDO© and concerned Circle Officer.

Online Application Process

For Applying online, you do not have to be in any line or be upset. To know how to get this certificate, you have to pay attention and read this article carefully. 

Government of Assam launched an Online Portal named Mission Bhumiputra candidate can submit applications for Caste Certificates online. This is one of the most anticipated missions of the Government of Assam. Mission Bhumiputra has been launched by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on first August 2022.

Kindly follow the below-mentioned step by step guidelines to obtain OBC certificate through Mission Bhumiputra Portal online in Assam. 

Step 1:  Scroll Down and Click on the Mission Bhumiputra Portal Link in the Important Links section.
Step 2:  The Official Login page of Mission Bhumiputra Portal will open up in the new window. Click on New Account button option to create a new account.
Step 3: Candidates have to provide basic details like name, Phone No, Email, Gender, PAN or Voter Number, Address in Applicant Information Section.
Step 4: To complete the Registration process of the Bhumiputra Portal, Enter Your Unique Screen Name/ Username and Password and Click on Register Button.

Note : Password must contain Minimum eight characters, at least one letter, one number and one special character
Step 5: Once registration process is done by a new user, login with your Screen Name/ Username and Password.
Step 6: After successful login, Dashboard of Mission Bhumiputra Portal will Appear where there are some buttons for applying new application, track application, download certificate.
Step 7: Download the Caste Certificate Form by clicking Download Manual Form button below the list of supporting Documents.


Step 8: Take a printout of this Form, and Fill-up the required details on it. scan the form which need to be uploaded as supporting document section of the online application form.
Step 9: Click on New application tab for applying a fresh application of Caste certificate.
Step 10: Fill up the application details and submit the application
Step 11: After successful submission of application, pay the government fees. after this, an acknowledgement receipt will be generated.

Validity of OBC certificate:

There is no validity of OBC Caste certificate in Assam once your application has been approved.
